Description: Iowa Department of Administrative Services is currently seeking to employ LAW ENFORCEMENT INSTRUCTOR right now, this career will be placed in Iowa. This position primarily provides instruction in the specialty area of Violence Against Women to Basic Recruit classes and field officers. Plans, checks work, gives in! struction and maintains discipline in basic academy, specialty schools and continuing education programs as assigned. Counsels and provides guidance to officers in the area of the instructor’s proficiency. Prepares, administers and grades examinations. Uses educational media equipment for instructional purposes. Provides planning, evaluating and updating training materials and course outlines. Responds to questions from graduates, officers in the field and other members of the criminal justice system.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
The individual must have knowledge of the Dynamics of Domestic and Sexual Abuse. Experience in investigating and formulating strategies in dealing with issues of violence against women. The individual must have knowledge of the principals, methods, tools and techniques of progressive law enforcement training and instructional methods. Knowledge of current law enforcement programs, literature, curricula, printed and visual material a! vailable. Ability to challenge, persuade and motivate classroo! m students. Ability to work with modern, electronic educational media equipment. Must display a high standard of ethical conduct. Works and communicates with internal and external clients and customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous manner. Works with minimal supervision. Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust and group identity. Fosters team spirit. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in police administration, police science, criminal justice, criminology, nursing, or the social or behavioral sciences, or a closely related field, and five years of full-time experience as a certified peace officer in a law enforcement agency or program, civilian jailer, jail trainer, jail administrator, or correctional officer in a jail, holding facility, prison or correctional institution, dispatcher, dispatch trainer, dispatch supervisor/administrator, nurse (RN or LPN), EMS paramedic or other clos! ely related emergency medical services provider.
