:
- Assist Triage Nursing in meeting the needs of individuals in the waiting area.
- Completes daily stocking of Main Department, Chest Pain Center and Pediatric Center.
- Transports patients to other departments within the hospital (CT, Surgery, and to admitted floor).
- Cleans room (changes linens on carts, disposes o! f used equipment and disposable items, and wipes down counters! and sinks when necessary) in preparation for the next patient.
- Assists Triage Nurse with vitals â" helps get patients out of car.
- Rooms patients â" asking for nurse and EKG when appropriate.
- Places patient in gown and on monitor while waiting for RN.
- Consistently monitors counter for orders needing completion.
- Rounding hourly on patients and meeting their needs or communicating them to the RN.
- Performs or assists patients with personal hygiene such as oral care and dressing/undressing.
- Assists patients with elimination needs: bedpan, urinal. Empties urinary catheter bags.
- Transfers patient to/from bed, wheelchair using correct equipment.
- Assists patient with ambulation.
- Answers patient call lights and responds appropriately.
- Collects and accurately labels urine specimens.
- Performs tasks including positioning and maintaining patient in correct and safe alignment; me! asuring and recording temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure; measuring and recording height and weight as directed.
- Assists with post-mortem care as directed by the clinical staff.
- Performs or assists with CPR.
- Sets up and assists with simple wound dressing changes.
- Sets up equipment and supplies for sterile/non-sterile procedures.
- Assists with preparation for anticipated admissions and transfers.
- Communicates changes/information regarding patient's physical/mental condition to the RN.
- Maintains patient care supplies.
- Collects venous blood specimens, with accurate labeling.
- Performs and transmits 12-Lead EKG
- Sets up nasal cannula oxygen delivery system; changes humidification bottle.
- Performs intermittent pulse oximetry checks, documents and/or reports value.
- Administers enemas. Performs urethral catheterization (intermittent and indwelling).
- Collects and accurately labels specimens: throat cultures, stool! specimens, sputum specimens.
- Cleans, sets up and operates selected pieces of equipment.
- Assists with application of orthopedic appliances, casts and splints. Assembles crutches and documents on chart.
- Sets up for and assists with pelvic exam as directed by the RN.
- Enters orders for diagnostic studies, observation and inpatient beds.
- Places calls to physicians, healthcare providers and community services.
- Receives incoming calls and communications.
- Answers patient intercom and communicates messages to staff.
- Communicates with nurse manager/relief charge nurse and staff information such as bed status, expected physician arrival times and physician orders for specimens and need for radiology green sheet (hand off sheet).
- Coordinates sequence of diagnostic studies communicating with ancillary areas.
- Inventories office and paper supplies and forwards for processing.
- Reviews patien! t records for completeness following discharge, following through with clinical staff.
- Prepares charts for scanning and log them into Lynx.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, a Phlebotomist, or certified as an EMT-B, EMT-I or Paramedic.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).
- Because of the acuity and the volume of patients seen in this clinical setting, needs to demonstrate the (analytical) ability to prioritize own workload, and assist others.
- Within six months of accepting this position, the employee must have complet! ed all required education provided by Mercy so as to satisfactorily dem! onstrate competency to complete EKG testing and basic phlebotomy. Certification/registration is optional.
- Within six months of accepting this position, the employee is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). This requires that the employee demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psychosocial needs of the patient population served.
- Within twelve months of accepting this position, the employee must satisfactorily demonstrate competency to complete the skills of Advanced Phlebotomy.
