AGRICULTURE PRODUCTS INSPECTOR

Location: Iowa Iowa

Description: Iowa Department of Administrative Services is currently interviewing AGRICULTURE PRODUCTS INSPECTOR right now, this occupation will be placed in Iowa. Further informations about this occupation opportunity kindly read the description below. The territory for this position is Cherokee and surrounding counties.

Obtain fertilizer samples to ensure manufacturers are meeting their guarantees and that manufacturers and

products are properly licensed and registered.

Review mix records and calculate component percentages of nitrogen, phosphorus,! potassium, and trace elements, when applicable.

Responsible for enforcing that all on-site containment of fertilizer, soil-conditioner storage, and mixing areas are properly contained.

Must survey territory, identify storage

facilities, review certification documents, and determine those that are exempt. Participate in rehearsals and exercises related to the responsibilities for safety.

Randomly sample feed products and review product labels to ensure compliance.

Determine a medicated feed manufacturer’s degree of compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices pursuant to Title 21 Chapter 1 Section 225 of the

Code of Federal Regulations.

Must calculate drug levels. Review labels of feeds, drug usage records, assay records, distribution records, and mixer clean-out procedures.

Shall obtain and maintain credentials issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) necessary to

conduct inspections! and investigations per FDA contract.

Inspect anhydro! us ammonia storage and nurse tanks, pressure-relief devices, liquid level-gauging devices,

valves, pressure gauges, pressure regulators, fittings, and dispensing devices.

Review container markings, placarding,

safety equipment, maintenance records, and employee safety-training records.

Evaluate inspection findings and prepare and issue Stop Sale Orders or Official Notices, as necessary.

Educate dealers and handlers on the procedures and safe handling practices of anhydrous ammonia.

Review

plumbing diagrams, plot plans, and other documents.

When directed, will investigate complaints, interview complainant, accumulate documentation, and provide supervisor with a written report of findings.

In an emergency may be called upon to assist and provide expertise on products and/or facilities involved.

Evaluate renderers, protein blenders, ruminant feeders, and haulers/distributors for complianc! e with Title 21 Chapter 1 Sections 589.2000 and 589.2001 of the

Code of Federal Regulations.

Review written procedures, receipts, processing, and distribution records.

Educate and instruct the industry in the provision of regulations and consequences.

Participate in related rehearsals and exercises.

Conduct inspections, egg grading, and facility evaluations of licensed egg handlers in Iowa to determine compliance with Title V Chapter 21 Section 196 of the

Iowa Code

and Chapter 21 Section 36 of the

Iowa Administrative Code

.

Will assist FDA in egg inspections in compliance with Title 21 Chapter 1

Part 118 of the

Code of Federal Regulations.

Will randomly sample feeds, grains, and pet foods in compliance the FDA Food Safety and BSE Ruminant Feed

Ban Support project. H

azard Analysis and Critical Control Points

compliance will be condu! cted in conjunction with BSE inspections.

Must be competent wi! th computers such as word processing, database, and use of spreadsheets.

Must be competent entering information and reports into FDA’s computer system. Participate in conference calls and trainings as

requested.

Sample limestone storage piles and trucks.

Ensure the bill of lading compares to the effective calcium carbonate equivalent.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a technical school, area community college or four year college or university with a major in chemistry, biology, agricultural business, agricultural management, agronomy, agricultural mechanization, animal science or a related agricultural field.
