ADVANCED REG NURSE PRAC

Location: Iowa City Iowa

Description: The University of Iowa is in need of ADVANCED REG NURSE PRAC right now, this position will be placed in Iowa. Percent Time: 100% Type of Position Regular: A position which is considered essential for the effective long-term operation of the university. Persons appointed to this position will receive the privileges and benefits associated with regular employment status. Duties: This position will provide emergency adult and adolescent psychiatric assessments primarily in the UIHC emergency treatment center. This includes providing suicide, homicide, and impairment / risk assessments. This position will collaborate / consult with members of the multi-disciplinary health care team to implement patient care recommendations â€" including voluntary and involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations. For some patients, urgent short term case management including medication management may be provided by this position. Education Required: A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required Experience Required: Demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Experience providing psychiatric assessments to distressed, emotionally charged adult and adolescent patients and their significant others.

Experience formulating diagnostic opinions and treatment plans utilizing the criteria of the DSM IV TR.

Experience providing suicide and homicide risk assessments.

Knowledge of commonly prescribed psychotropic medications and side effects.

Certifications:
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required.

Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.

Desirable Qualifications:Highly Desired:
Demonstrated ability to collaborate / consult with members of the multi-disciplinary health care team to implement patient care recommendations.

Experience providing assessments to determine the patient’s ability and willingness to participate in treatment.

Desired:
Experience providing emergency psychiatric assessments to distressed, emotionally charged children and their family members.

Experience w/ the Iowa mental health commitment process.

Experience providing psychiatric triage / acute case management services.

Knowledge of community resources.
