About the Position â" Position Description The ideal candidate will have broad business acumen and a talent for articulating future business vision that enables the organization to achieve key corporate objectives related to growth and expense management via the delivery of well planned and well defined projects. Equally important to this individualâs success is their ability to demonstrate proficiency at planning, developing and managing business and functional requirements for complex projects characterized as having a high degree of technical and/or political sophistication. If selected your first assignment will be a business analysis leadership position on a key project to transform our personal lines business and the underlying system that supports it. This exciting role will require the incumbent to plan, coordinate and guide the work of other business analysts and subject matter experts assigned to the project.
Job Responsibilities include:
Business Analysis (Requirements Planning, Development, and Management) - Leads the business analysis effort on strategic business projects. Projects are characterized by varying levels of complexity, ambiguity, urgency, risk and technical and political sophistication
Requirement Planning
Defines requirements scope.
Completes stakeholder analysis.
Develops formal requirement plan for project detailing the BA work streams/work break down structure, artifacts inventory, hour estimates, methods for gathering, and BA skill sets needed.
May assist with the development of high quality business case and cost benefit analysis documents to be presented to the executive committee.
Process Definition and Requirements Development
Plans and conducts process re-design and/or requirement gathering sessions.
Uses interviewing and facilitation skills to elicit requirements from business stakeholders.
Authors requirements documents and employs various business analysis techniques in their creation. Examples: Current and future state process models, context diagrams, business rules, use cases, user stories, entity relationship diagrams (ERD), etc. Ultimately the designs will transform or change business practices workflows and systems.
Develops creative solutions. Follows a logical process and presents cost/benefit data and alternative solutions in a way that enables decision making.
Schedules and facilitates requirement walk through meetings. Resolves requirement issues and updates documentation. Secures all necessary sign offs from the business and IT.
Requirements Management
Responsible for planning and leading the business analysis efforts on the projects they are assigned to. If other Business Analyst resources are assigned this individual will plan and manage their work and ensure the overall quality
Acts as a steward of the project scope by managing requirements to what business stakeholders signed off. If adjustments are made, adheres to proper change control procedures.
Creates and maintains traceability matrix.
Partners with quality assurance (testing) resources. Identifies and documents testing considerations and reviews and approves test plan, test cases and test results.
If defects result, negotiates with the business to resolve. If manual processes are introduced or requirements are adjusted to resolve the defect, this individual takes ownership to ensure documentation is updated accordingly.
Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and applicable work experience.
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible business experience.
Three (3+) years of experience performing the role of a lead Business Analyst on complex projects.
Experience with a variety of Project Management and Software Lifecycles. (Examples: Waterfall, Agile, Iterative, RUP etc)
Experience using Microsoft Office products. (Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel etc.)
Experience in the financial services industry.
Experience with 3rd party software packages.
Experience in property/casualty insurance preferred.
Certified Business Analysis Designation (CBAP) preferred.
Successful completion of formal business analyst training program is preferred.
Six Sigma certification preferred.
Business Analysis certification required or must be willing to obtain.
Expert understanding and deployment of business analysis concepts. (Business Process Reengineering, context diagrams, business rules, business requirements, user stories, use cases etc.)
Strong planning, facilitation, communication, conflict management, and change management skills.
Results oriented, self motivated individual with a proven track record of taking ownership.
