The Direct Support Professional / Certified Medication Aide (Marion County Care Facility) will be ! responsible for passing medications to the individuals at the designated times and providing drug counseling to the individuals when necessary. This is a 2nd shift, fulltime position in Knoxville, IA.
DUTIES
- Assist individuals in ADLs, personal hygiene, laundry, housekeeping, meal planning, budgeting, and vocational skills, to support the team effort.
- Administer medications utilizing the five patient rights.
- Administer medications and treatments in a private area.
- Report changes in condition to nursing / supervisory staff.
- Communicate with Pharmacy, doctors and other providers in a respectful, timely manner.
- Documents appropriately on medication administration record.
- Maintain medication cart and ensure work area is clean and stocked.
- Perform monthly vital signs, weights, and B/Ps.
- Assist in crisis situations utilizing CPI principles and techniques when needed.
- Comple! te Quarterly Goal Tracking Forms, as assigned.
- Comple! te incident reports whenever needed in a timely manner.
- Complete all documentation in a timely manner (end of shift).
- Other job related duties, as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass TB test, physical, and drug screen prior to hire and as required by regulation and/or policy.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, bend, twist, kneel, push, pull, sit on floor, and walk up and down steps on a regular basis.
- Possess a valid driver's license and current auto insurance.
- Satisfactory results on background checks with previous employers, criminal and abuse registries, etc.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to complete required agency and department trainings within 90 days, and ability to maintain and utilize skills taught.
- Ability to ! communicate verbally in person and by phone.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and notes.
- Ability to comprehend and implement department, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Ability to comprehend and implement each individual's programs and procedures.
- Ability to act responsibly in a crisis, use good judgment skills, and willingly perform restraining techniques as needed.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Current Iowa CMA licensure required, combined with demonstrated competence in license / certification skill set.
