The role of the Neurology Nurse Practitioner is to integrate the elements of health maintenance disease prevention, physical diagno! sis and treatment in a neurology care clinic. This includes the treatment and management of common, acute and chronic conditions. The Nurse Practitioner services may be utilized in the office according to credentialing regulations of the institutions or insurance carriers.
Essential Duties:
The Nurse Practitioner, with the collaboration of the supervising physician, will provide neurology health care services to children and adults. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Secure a complete health history, perform a complete physical exam, and assess patient condition.
Order routine lab work such as CBC, chemistry panel, lipid profiles, thyroid function studies, throat cultures, appropriate x-rays, MRI scans, EEG's, EMG's, ultrasounds, etc. without physician consultation as necessary.
Manage appropriate primary care health and medical problems, including patient education, counseling, medication advice, ! instructions and follow-up for diverse age groups (children to! elderly).
Prescribes and dispense medication consistent with state law.
Provide education and counseling in areas of health care maintenance and disease prevention.
Manage therapy for specific medical disorders in collaboration with the physician.
Present appropriate cases to the supervising physician for consultations.
Complete exams and data sets on patients for insurance companies, schools, employers, Department of Motor Vehicles, and/or Social Security agencies when requested and authorized by the patient.
Preparation and completion of medical records on the same date of the visit.
Perform appropriate emergency measures as deemed necessary; e.g., CPR.
Assists with development of school, community and well care-based education programs, in the area to promote and market clinic with the assistance of the Medical Staff/ Marketing Coordinator.
Assists with the development of educational progra! ms in the clinic for diverse age groups (i.e. childhood, adolescence, adult and geriatric).
Qualifications
Education:
Master's degree in Nursing.
Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience:
One year of previous Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.
License/Certification:
Current State RN/ARNP license with prescriptive authority.
CPR certification.
ANCC certification.
BCLS required.
