Education Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent. Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing an! d currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa.

Job Requirements: Previous labor/delivery experience required. Will be required to be current in BCLS. Will also need to be certified in NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) within one year of hire. Recommended to have the Hepatitis B Vaccine. Able to multitask efficiently and prioritize effectively. Hearing must be sufficient to auscultate with stethoscope. Function effectively in crisis and emergency situations. Able to read fine print such as on medication vials and patient’s records. It is acceptable to use glasses or contact lenses.

Responsibilities: Responsible for delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Coordinates patient education, and activities of interdisciplinary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing in accordance with the established methods and procedures of Mahaska Hea! lth Partnership. Successful completion of orientation and cont! inuing in-service education. Be aware of general condition of patients in nursery and on post-partum unit. Adapt to make needed changes in workload or patient assignment. Recognize abnormal labor situations and takes proper action per departmental protocol. Perform accurate vaginal exams, call physician for delivery at appropriate time and interpret fetal monitoring tracings. Accurately assess condition of labor, post partum or critical patients, consulting with peers, supervisors, and medical staff as necessary.
