We invite you to join the Vascular Lab team at Iowa’s premier Heart and Vascular Center!

We are looking for a Vascular Sonographer who will:
Perform specialized diagnostic non-invasive vascular testing of the peripheral arterial, venous and cerebrovascular circulation.

Evaluate the peripheral vessels with Duplex ultrasound, continuous wave Doppler or plethysmography.

Record diameter measurements to determine abdominal or popliteal aneurysms by Duplex ultrasound.

Use spectrum analysis to determine blood flow factors.

Use resistance index to determine extent of carotid artery stenosis by percentage.

Assess deep veins for patency; evaluates valvular incompetence.

Evaluate cerebrovascular, arterial, extracranial and intracranial circulation.

Evaluate insitu bypass graft for patency, stenosis, occlusion or fistulas; rules o! ut pseudoaneurysms.

Accumulate test data on appropria! te forms and diagnoses the degree of disease.

Respond to telephone inquiries and patient consultations from residents, staff and others regarding patient examinations or test results.

Consult with staff physicians if a second modality is necessary for further evaluation or if a critical condition warrants immediate attention.

Assume responsibility for test evaluation and interpretation of test results.

Assist in development of new techniques.

Attend continuing education programs as specified by the ARDMS.

Maintain quality control of laboratory equipment. Orders and maintains inventory of laboratory supplies. Calibrates and conducts routine maintenance of instrumentation.

Maintain patient clinical files and prepares patient charges for laboratory services.

Interact with other laboratory staff and personnel in a professional manner.

Share on-call responsibilities with other Vascular Sonographers.!

Follow general policies and procedures in accordance with the regulations of The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the College of Medicine, the Department of Internal Medicine, and UI Heart and Vascular Center.

Ability to respond to on-call requirements within 30 minutes.

Education Required:
Requires the completion of a 24 month A.M.A. approved Allied Health field education program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a 12 month formal education program in Vascular Ultrasonography. Experience Required:

Minimum one (1) year recent vascular ultrasonography experience within past 6 months; or completion of A.M.A. approved Allied Health field education program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a 12 month formal education program in Vascular Ultrasonography within past 6 months required.

Previous experience providing or t! raining within a direct patient care setting involving the use of non-i! nvasive vascular sonography within past 6 months required.

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously within a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team required.

Proven ability to successfully work in a diverse environment and promote a positive culture required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Certifications:
Requires registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in Vascular Sonography (ARDMS) within nine (9) months following the start of employment.

Desirable Qualifications:
Minimum three (3) years recent vascular ultrasonography experience within past 6 months desired.

Previous experience providing direct patient care in an academic medical setting desired.

Previous experience serving as a preceptor/student trainer.
