Thielen Student Health Center (TSHC) at Iowa State University is currently seeking applications for a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). TSHC is the primary provider of health care services for the students of I! owa State University. It provides primary health care, mental health services, laboratory and radiology services, pharmacy services and physical therapy. In addition, the TSHC Prevention Services department provides leadership for a comprehensive approach to reduce health risks for students, foster a healthy campus environment, and support the academic success of students.
The CMA functions within the scope of medical assistant practice in performing technical assessment of a patient and assisting medical providers in patient care including minor surgery, administration of medications and treatments, fitting orthopedic devices, and administering immunizations, under the direction of the medical provider and/or registered nurse. The CMA is responsible for screening and directing communication between clinic staff, continuing care providers, students, university faculty and staff, and the public. The CMA also provides written and verbal patient educational informatio! n and arranges for continuing and follow-up care of the patien! t.
Required Qualifications
Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one year Medical Assistant Program, OR
Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology; medical terminology; basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation; and psychology.
Preferred Qualifications
Recent experience with direct patient care and equipment used in an ambulatory clinic setting. Experience working with electronic medical records. Experience providing medical assistance to young adult patients.
Salary
Entry hourly salary: $14.99
